Highsmith Competition

Published by Jeff at 8:31 am under Local, The Arts

I am very pleased to announce that my orchestral work, The Long Valley, has been selected as the winning work for the Jim Highsmith Competition, held annually at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. I know several of the applicants personally, and I admire their work immensely, which makes this occasion markedly significant and humbling for me.

This great honor comes with a performance of The Long Valley by the San Francisco Conservatory Orchestra, conducted by Andrew Mogrelia. The concert will also include repertoire by other composers: Andre Previn’s Sally Chisum Remembers Billy the Kid, and Hector Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique. Details:

It is my hope that many of my friends and family can make it to this event. Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions. And, expect a recording to be posted here as soon as I get it!

And not to be forgotten, the SF State Chamber Singers, under the direction of Vance George, will be performing my composition, “In pace,” in two concerts this weekend. Here’s a reminder:
