Thank you, Grandpa Augie. We will miss you and love you all the days of our lives. |

He retired from Sears after 28 years where he managed both carpet and automotive departments.
August was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sacristan for daily Mass. He also volunteered his time for Meals on Wheels and Saint Vincent De Paul.

I was unfortunate enough to only have known Augie for a few years. I can’t speak much about him other than he was the sweetest old man I have ever known. I believe that the world is a dimmer place having lost him. He will truly be an asset to God in his heavenly kingdom.
Salinas has lost an important landmark with the loss of Scat. The stories of Scat will be passed down through the generations, and his Great Great grandchildren will be proud to be descended from him. I know that he looks down on his family as a proud father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He may not have said it often, but it is obvious to see in the twinkle in his eyes how proud he was of his family.
I remember how he would light up an entire room simply with his presence. I am honored to have known this man, and I strive to be as faithful and joyful as he was.

To all the family: My best memories as a teen were being at the house and feeling very welcomed by everyone there. Great conversations with Scat, bbqs, watching the S. F. Giants games and feeling a true sense that someone cared. Scat was that type of person who always made time for all who came by. I will always remember his care, laughter and concern for others. My prayers are with you all.

Dear Jo and Family: I am given 1000 characters in this guest book to express my feelings about your loss of August. If I but had enough words to fill a set of encyclopedias it would not be enough to do that. It is now 10:41 a.m. on August 14 and I am, in my own personal way, sitting in front of my computer saying goodbye to your loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. I am also saying goodbye to a very personal friend, really a brother who stood alongside of me at the organ in the Holy Trinity Church in Greenfield, with his brother, Arthur on the other side, gloriously singing Leonard’s Mass in E flat. Those were the days! And now they are gone. We had so much fun and pleasure in doing that very beautiful Mass many, many times. I just could not attend the Mass in Salinas today but hope that you will understand that my heart is filled with sorrow in your loss because it is my loss, too. I will remember August in my prayers as well as I will remember all of you so that God will give you the strength and courage to go on where August has left off. You have every reason to be proud of him and can be assured that he stands now at the right hand of the Father pleading your cause in everything you do. Bless you all. Wilmar Tognazzini

Hello all. Our thoughts and prayers from Washington are with you.
From Augie’s arguments about my “book learning” vs. his “common sense” (which we both enjoyed) to the wonderful ways in which he has helped out my mom, he will be remembered.
Augie, you were the last neighborhood father to leave us, so as Linny said, say hi to those who preceded you. Go in peace!
We love you all,
